Thank you for trying to restore balance regarding Catholicism

I was delighted to see you print the article by Margaret Hickey (Opinion, August 7). 

It was an antidote to your editorial on the same subject some time ago. That editorial was a bit hostile and arrogant towards the Church, so typical of a generation brought up on post-Vatican ll catechetics, or rather lack of catechetics.

So I do not blame the Irish Examiner but rather those responsible for the handing on an understanding of the faith at that time. No wonder Archbishop Martin thought the recent marriage referendum was a wakeup call. I do not expect you to print this, but I want to express my thanks for your effort to restore a more balanced understanding of the affair.
