Independent Ireland has not lived up to 1916

I struggle to write a letter about the Easter Rising of 1916, because I am overawed when I consider the profound sacrifice those visionaries made, in offering up their very lives for Irish freedom.

Independent Ireland has not lived up to 1916

In the manner of Jesus Christ at Easter, the signatories of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic allowed themselves to be sacrificial lambs, so that their nation would finally wake up and free itself (once and for all) from the bondage that it had been taught to accept as a colony.

I am overwhelmed when I reflect on the fact that not one of the executed leaders of the Easter Rising begged for mercy, or clemency, from the British government, when it was decided that they would be summarily executed without the benefit of a trial by jury of their peers.
