You cannot really call political failure to tackle alcohol companies’ sponsorship of sports spineless as it’s a tall order and has been debated for 50 years without any action.

But there is no evidence that adding cost to drink is a deterrent to bingeing. In my experience, if drink is wanted it is procured.

But what of this price increase, where does the money go? I would suggest that it goes back to the Alcohol Beverage Federation and they be required to establish near or in each hospital a 24/7 fully accredited and staffed clinic to care only for those disabled, incapacitated or injured by drink.
