Teachers are right to say enough is enough
I speak as a parent whose teenage son is sitting his Leaving Cert this year and two other children in post primary school. Teachers wages and working conditions have been severely cut since 2008. Yet they have brought in many changes in the secondary school sector with all the additional work that this entails, be it a move away from a single terminal exam and the inclusion of portfolios and project work.
They have also implemented a wide range of changes to the Junior Cert curriculum for many years now. I see each week the additional ongoing assessments that they take. Teachers must stand firm on this core issue of ensuring that the main exam is examined by the state examination board and not corrupted in anyway.
