John Leahy (Irish Examiner, October 18) blames warped planning and windmills for destroying the beauty of Crosshaven. But it is Irish Don Quixotes who are attacking windmills believing them to be ferocious giants.

I’m sorry to hear that windmills offend their eyes. Perhaps they should wear blinkers of the sort that asses wore when going to the creameries in years gone by, so they could avoid being distracted as they drive our country’s dangerous byways. Arguably they are already wearing mental blinkers.

While wind-generated electricity is not the answer to all of Ireland’s energy needs, it does provide an environmentally-friendly valuable source of power, just as the Ardnacrusha hydroelectric scheme has been providing since 1929.
