No justice for bankers

A report in the Washington Post (April 4) reveals that in June 2009 “Bernie Madoff was sentenced to 150 years in federal prison” for defrauding investors of at least $18bn and “in the past five months, at least three Vietnamese bankers have been sentenced to death”.

No justice for bankers

In Ireland, our governance and judicial system awards our corrupt bankers with bonuses and large pension pots, imprisons the law-abiding in poverty, and sentences many under-privileged to premature death due to underfunded health services caused by our taxpayers having to bail out the banks, builders and developers. Yet, we are continually reminded how great a job our Government is doing, in spite of the fact all they have done is ease the short-term borrowing costs by inflicting the equivalent of a sub-prime national debt mortgage on future generations. Justice in Ireland is seen to be undone.
