Hands off the GAA, minister.

So this Minister (een) is interested in Sport, with a capital “S”.

Hands off the GAA, minister.

This is distinct from giving out goodies from the National Lottery which was established to fund sport in this country before it was hijacked and became the preserve of a private caucus.

But Minister Varadkar wants to do more now: he wants the GAA, a private company, to disclose where their funds will be spent.

In the Irish Examiner he is quoted as saying: “What I think would be of reassurance to fans and the general public would be some indication as to how the GAA is to spend the money they are going to get.”

Could this exact same analogy not be used in how his little gombeen friends and himself intend to spend the Local Property Tax?

Charlatans who use populism will never be accepted.

Accountability, my ear.

As a committed GAA fan of long standing, I think it is so sick to hear a government minister whose regime imposes a tax on hurleys and under 12 playing gear spout on about accountability.

Let the hare sit and they will get their answers in the forthcoming elections.

As I am aware the Minister speaks in a wonderfully rounded dulcet Dublin tone, he may not be accustomed to the colloquial phrase “a fair bit of a bollox”, and if he continues in this manner he should be consigned to the nether regions of Joe Duffy.

And if he needs further questions to ask or be answered, maybe chat with “The Rabbitte” and inquire why RTÉ have failed in their remit, at taxpayers’ expense, to properly express the peoples’games.

They have been shamefully remiss in poor commentary, jaded presentation and sick and boring analysis.

But this suits the RTÉ pro-rugby, D4 contingent, as we saw in their OTT fawning to the winning of a really innocuous 6 team league recently.
