‘Disgusting’ remark brings Fawlty to mind

When the former Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan described statements made during the whistleblower controversy as “disgusting”, it brought an episode of the comedy show Fawlty Towers to mind.

Basil Fawlty said “disgusting” when a guest asked if the chemist shop was still open. Basil assumed wrongly that the guest wanted to buy condoms.

Thankfully, the recently ‘retired’ Commissioner has found a way out of his difficult situation, be it more radical then Basil’s.
