We are straight, lesbian, gay and bisexual, and are shocked and dismayed at your recent decision to march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City, on March 17.
At a time when brutal anti-gay laws are being introduced in many countries and LGBT people are the targets of violent assaults, often leading to death, we ask you to reconsider your decision and join with New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio, New York City Council, and many others, in boycotting the parade.
As the leader of our country, we ask you to lead by example and, along with politicians in New York and Washington, to highlight these abusive laws.
This would be a strong symbol to Irish citizens, and the world, that the Irish Government will not condone discrimination against LGBT people, whether Irish or otherwise, no matter where they live.
