Not so sure about Barroso and EU values

Jose Emmanuel Barroso, president of the European Commission, in a recent reference to Ukraine, has spoken enthusiastically of “European values” for that country. But what exactly are these values?

In Ireland, we have some experience of ‘European values’.

They include divorce (with its effects on children), the taking of unborn human life, test-tube babies, etc. And big money. Coming soon are same-sex adoption (also with effects on children), same-sex ‘marriage’ (guess who’s going to pay the price), surrogacy, and euthanasia.

Then there is the holy grail of democracy. The EU is very keen on it in Syria, but curiously doesn’t mention it where Ukraine is concerned.

But to get the point across, will Conscription now also be on the menu? The EU/EEC has been, in many respects, a good idea. But there’s a limit.
