Film and screen media course has strong appeal
The article outlined options for two types of prospective students — the student who knows exactly what he/she wants to do and students that are interested in a career in the area more generally. It will will appeal not just to those who want to get into the film industry, but also those eager to pursue careers in mass media, journalism, publishing, advertising, and more besides.
The BA offers a unique blending of theoretical and practical skills. Students will leave ready to engage with every stage of digital filmmaking, from screenwriting to shooting and editing. This is complemented by a variety of courses on film studies and screen media that will give students a thorough knowledge of film and screen history and equip them with skills needed to expertly analyse film and screen media (internet, mobile social media, computer games) as objects of artistic expression and storytelling.
Students can enjoy classes in the surroundings of UCC’s brand new Film and Screen Media auditorium, which is equipped with a state-of-the-art screen and sound facility and a lab where they can work on their practical projects. Students on will also meet visiting filmmakers, writers and academics. UCC is also lucky to have as its Adjunct Professor Oscar-winning producer Lord David Puttnam (Chariots of Fire, Midnight Express, The Mission) who has given this exciting new programme his seal of approval.
