A road to nowhere
The Minister said that enough fare increases had been foisted upon the public, so to maintain the service, workers must subsidise public transport.
If the State won’t fund the loss-making bus services, then buses should be taken off the road.
Ordinary workers are paying enough in taxes, like property, income, USC, VAT, insurance levies, hospital charges, all of which leave us barely above the poverty line, without asking bus drivers to invest in semi-State companies.
A recent newspaper report cited 88 managers in CIE on salaries in excess of €100,000. These overpaid persons should be the target, not productive workers.
