Replacing one vested interest with another

Fergus O’Leary (Letters, Jun 7) is right when he says that ‘the nation cannot afford the extravagant notions of worth’ or the overwhelming sense of entitlement of far too many of its vested interests.

I have, however, a problem with his solution to dealing with vested interests.

Mr O’Leary proposes having some powerful person, with a bigger sense of entitlement than all other vested interests put together, telling parliament, as Oliver Cromwell did, ‘let us have done with you ... in the name of God go’.
