Turkish accession

Mary McAleese, on Mar 23, 2010, then our President, on an official visit to Turkey “reaffirmed Ireland’s strong backing for Turkey’s accession to EU membership”.

Most certainly, she was not representing me in that statement. Was it, I wonder, at that time attributable to the typical Fianna Fáil habit of reckless fawning and of the “free lunch” syndrome variety?

And what would Mrs McAleese have to say today?
