Apologies will not undo economic fallout

I watched with frustration as the Fianna Fáil leader, Micheál Martin, acted contrite on television to distance himself from his party’s role in the destruction of our economy.

Apologies will not undo economic fallout

While the apology is welcome, an eternity of saying sorry will not make amends. Sorry won’t rehouse people, heal the suffering caused by a mismanaged health service, educate autistic children abandoned so banks could survive, or put food on the table of hungry citizens.

If Mr Martin expects the Irish people to vote for his party again, a more practical apology would be if he guaranteed 50% of all TDs’, councillors’ and area representatives’ salaries would go to a hardship fund for the victims of his party’s reign.

For the record, I am not an apologist for the current administration. I pray, with every fibre of my being, that they suffer the same fate as their predecessors.
