New driving licence - Unwelcome monopoly

The introduction of a new style of driving licence is a mundane matter and if it leads to more efficiency then it is to be welcomed.

New driving licence - Unwelcome monopoly

That process is under way but one aspect is a cause of concern.

Applicants will be obliged to get their photograph taken by an agent of the Road Safety Authority, Credit Card Systems. This monopoly flies in the face of the idea of competition and precludes the possibility of providing your own photographs. It also creates the possibility of individuals needlessly having to travel long distances to have a photograph taken.

This is unacceptable especially as a local person can take a photograph which satisfies those who issue passports and all of the security organisations around the world that rely on that document. This seems a bad idea that needs to be reviewed.
