Time to revisit EU’s founding principles

Your editorial (Nov 28) refers to the “European project”.

In pursuance of this “project”, the real tragedy will occur if the principles of the EU’s founding principles are not revisited, to avoid the economic collapse and ensuing aftermath.

In his collection of essays, History of the Present: Essays, Sketches, and Dispatches from Europe in the 1990s, Timothy Garton Ash, professor of European studies at Oxford University, argues the ideological gulf between the libertarianism on which Europe is historically founded and the political ideals of the EU is too wide in order for this “project” to succeed.
