Labour must surely see it’s in big trouble

Michael McCarthy TD (Labour), says the recent controversy regarding former Minister Roisín Shortall has been unhelpful to his party.

Labour must surely see it’s in big trouble

Is that all they in Labour would call it? Michael McCarthy then takes your columnist Matt Cooper to task for daring to state what most people feel — that the Labour Party has seriously, if not mortally, wounded itself through the contamination of the right wing austerity policy agenda of FF & FG.

The Labour TD goes on to highlight the behaviour of the previous government who shamelessly destroyed the economy with their casino capitalist cronies.

How, then, would Michael McCarthy describe this/his government, which has borrowed and is implementing the FF manual on austerity aimed at the poor and middle incomes, while protecting the rich.

What says Deputy McCarthy about the allegation of James Reilly favouring one of his developer cronies in his own constituency? It doesn’t require mature reflection to see how it has sold out on the weakest, the unemployed, the working class and even the middle classes. The mere suggestion of the introduction of a wealth tax has been about as welcome as holy water to the Devil, to the current Labour leadership. Deputy McCarthy needs to realise that it is not just the professional opinion of Matt Cooper that Labour is in big trouble, but also of every hungry school child in this state, and their dogs.
