Is it not highly significant that in all of the media comments on the registration of septic tanks, very few commentators explained why a huge number of people, almost half, refused to register?

Take a stance on ‘unjust’ septic tank charge

The reason is simple: they regard it as a question of fairness — ie, parity with our brothers and sisters in the towns and cities. Our demand is clear enough: that the cost of the upkeep of sewage systems in rural areas must come out of general taxation as is the case in urban areas.

As the organisation which spearheaded the campaign against Minister Hogan’s unjust system, we in Glór na Tuaithe would like to reiterate the following points: We are totally in favour of clean water; we are totally in favour of proper septic tanks; we demand a 100% grant for the upkeep of our septic tanks.
