Road wire barriers need attention

For the benefit of your readers unfamiliar with this type of road, it has a 12km section separated by wire barriers designed to prevent vehicles from crossing into oncoming traffic.

Road wire barriers need attention

Despite being banned throughout Europe, Ireland continued to install these barriers over the more conventional Armco barriers. Having said that, these barriers do their job; however, I’ve noticed that since Jan 2012 Cork County Council have made no attempt to repair any of the damaged sections, of which there are many.

There are now sections with the wire supports or poles missing, so there’s just the wire to stop vehicles (God help anyone who hits those), and there are sections where the poles have been struck and now point towards oncoming traffic.
