Brolly got it wrong about The Gooch

I read the John Fogarty article in the Sport Tuesday section of the Irish Examiner.

I used to be a fan of Joe Brolly but where is he coming from?

He states that he did not call Cooper a choker — he did but wants to fob his earlier comments off.

But to go on and say he is not able to impose himself on a game like Spillane, Egan or Sheehy, is just not true.

These are different times and Cooper may not be as flamboyant as those mentioned earlier, but anyone knows Colm Cooper brings total confidence to the Kerry team. When he is not on the pitch, the nerves get frayed.

Brolly goes on to say that Cooper is not a warrior like Sean Cavanagh. No disrespect to Cavanagh or Brolly, but how many All-Irelands do they have between them?

Cooper is not only a warrior — he is the warrior for modern times in the game. He is magic. When Brolly wrote this he must have had a bad day. It happens: even the ‘Gooch’ has a bad day.

Joe Brolly also refers to Kerry during the ‘wonder era’. The ‘wonder era’ is now.
