Government move on child abuse a welcome step in right direction

The Government had one good day last week.

Legislation was published to make it an offence to withhold information about the sexual abuse of children. At a time when austerity and cynicism about austerity rebounds, we should take care not to miss a significant development when it occurs.

Minister for Children, Francis Fitzgerald has been the first minister for children to actually do what she said she would do to protect children. She should be congratulated for that. The timing, sadly, couldn’t be better.
