Anti-Catholic media coverage
It reached its crescendo in a quite appalling RTE Liveline (Apr 12), which provided an outlet for what seemed like every anti-Catholic bigot in the country to have their say.
It’s difficult to rationalise the source of this outrage, but a number of factors come to mind: the recent census figures which revealed a quite staggering figure of 84% identifying as Catholic and the noticeable increase in numbers attending Easter Church services (standing room only in many parishes).
In relation to the commentary on priestesses and related matters, the simple fact from a Catholic theological perspective is that the priesthood is inherently male. The survey results are irrelevant.
