Our so-called “household charge” is no such thing.

A household charge by definition is composed of people, not of bricks and mortar. What we have here is a silly, inadequate, inequitable property tax. A properly graded household charge would be paid by every household that could afford it, since every household, whether owning or renting its accommodation, uses public services.
