Footing embassy bill

Can I just say how tiresome I find those letters expressing the view that the Irish embassy to the Vatican should be paid for solely by Catholics?

We do not expect English people living here to pay for the Irish embassy in London or Austrian people resident here to foot the bill for the Irish embassy in Vienna.

This is not an Irish church/papacy relationship but the symbiotic sharing of diplomatic intelligence between two independent states.
