The leaders of the IRA of the 1940s were prepared to assist a German invasion of Ireland, against the wishes of the then Irish Government.

They were co-operating with the Germans and therefore were collaborating.

Would JA Barnwell (Letters, Feb 23) rather use the pejorative term “informer” for Ryan and Russell and co?

They did inform the Germans about Irish and Northern Irish defences.
