Learn from our mistakes

I AGREE with P Doyle’s letter (Jan 6) criticising “the Taoiseach’s lack of respect for the problems facing every citizen” caused by recent budgets.

While I am all in favour of criticising powerful government politicians, such criticism now is a bit late in the day. It was the absence of such criticism by the most powerful people in the country over the past decade or more that has the country in the mess it’s now in. As a consequence they thought they could walk on water and made reckless decisions. We should not make the same mistake again with the current crop of people in charge.
