Paying for the gambling sins of the ruling class

IN response to your columnist Matt Cooper, I recommend that he step down from his lofty heights.

My neighbours here in rural West Cork, don’t press a ’send’ key to pay their bills.

Most are lucky to have a phone service, let alone a computer or broadband. He says that most will pay the $100 house tax, albeit with a groan. Well, think again.

Sure their intent is to neither pay the house tax nor the unlawful fine, with the ensuing intimidating which is ongoing. Imagine paying a tax for a place to live in after paying for the building of it yourself?

We have seen where arrogance got this country. Would any judge here deprive anybody of a place to live without the bailiff — remember 1847? — coming to throw us out on the roadside?

Mr Cooper may have plenty of money with which to click the ‘send’ key to pay these unlawful taxes, but with someone on a state pension it’s another matter.

It’s like a new ascendancy class has gone mad, asking us to pay for their gambling.
