We need a frank debate about Europe’s future

IN 1801, those in political and economic power advocated and agreed the Act of Union, with Britain.

In 2006 and in 2007 the same vested interests brought about the Lisbon Treaty. Up to that point the vast majority were only aware of a common market.

Before the Act of Union, there were the plantations and before the Lisbon Treaty there were the open borders with all of the new Europe.
