The wrong direction?

THE recent advertisement for a project manager with the Samaritans to oversee the introducing of “signposting” within Ireland, illustrates the bureaucratic and centralised direction from Britain of that organisation.

The wrong direction?

“Signposting” is a UK term for referring callers on to other organisations. The Dublin branch, which is the largest by far within Ireland, used to signpost but after careful internal debate, discontinued it as not being in the best interest of callers or consonant with the true ethos of Samaritans.

Now it appears to be policy again, without any consultation whatsoever with the Dublin branch.
