Shame on you, Howlin

MINISTER Brendan Howlin is quoted in your newspaper (November 8) as saying that National Irish Bank cannot be forced to pass on (to hard-pressed borrowers) the ECB rate reduction.

Shame on you, Howlin

As a public servant who has seen my income decimated because of the unprecedented recession we are experiencing, I can only wonder why the Government doesn’t simply change the law to force banks such as NIB to pass on the rate reduction. After all, there was little hesitation on the part of the Government to change the law to reduce the pay of tens of thousands of civil servants.

All I can say to Minister Howlin is this: his predecessor, Brendan Corish must be turning in his grave. Shame on you and your ministerial colleagues, Mr Howlin.
