Food security - Seven billion to feed

A SIGNIFICANT milestone for humanity was passed in recent days and it will have consequences for all of us and our children. Now there are more than seven billion of us depending in the food and water this plant can provide.

Speaking at the weekend, IFA leader John Bryan pointed out that Irish farmers already help feed 35 million people and can feed even more in the right circumstances.

He also warned about food security and how tentative our situation is. This is one issue we can control completely and there is no reason why we cannot guarantee our food supplies and create thousands of jobs doing so.
