Oireachtas needs more power to probe banks

IT WAS absolutely chilling to read the names of the eight former Attorneys General who wrote against tomorrow’s referendum on Oireachtas inquiries in your newspaper last Monday (October 24).

It was a puissant procession of bankers and friends, calling, in effect, for banks never to be investigated.

There can be no doubt that powerful interests lie behind opposition to this much-needed amendment.
