Let’s hope debate a sign of things to come

WATCHING the debate in the Dáil on Tuesday evening on mortgages and debts, I was pleased to see that there is co-operation on this serious issue and less than normal party politics at play.

Let’s hope debate a sign of things to come

I hope that this is also evident again when the debate continues.

Michael McGrath’s solution was well presented as were his remarks on the Keane Report and he was easier to follow than Alan Shatter’s proposals because the minister spoke very quickly at times. I felt he wasn’t really considering those of us following the debate by RTÉ link at home as he used technical language and seemed to want to hurry through his script at times. O’Doherty is, of course, a very good speaker for Sinn Féin but is less convincing as he seems to feel that Sinn Féin need to prove something so goes out of his way to find fault with others.

Overall, I found the debate positive and less confrontational than I feared. Let’s hope this augers well for speedy and effective legislation this side of the budget.
