Referenda checks

ON October 27 we will be asked to vote on two issues apart from the presidential election.

The issues are judicial pay and additional powers for Dáil committees to investigate and deliberate without reference to law or human rights.

Could we tear ourselves away from the presidential election to have a look at what we are being asked to vote on, please?

The Government has not produced the wordings as yet, nor a layperson’s version, either.

These referenda are being introduced under the guise of cost-cutting, but in reality they add hugely to the power of government over citizens and over the judiciary.
