A shabby moment

IT may not be surprising but it is disappointing that Senator Jillian van Turnhout was subjected to unacceptable personal abuse because she decided that she would not help Senator David Norris secure a nomination to contest the presidential election.

There is no suggestion that Senator Norris was involved, indeed he has contacted Senator van Turnhout to offer support and comfort, but it is a sad day for us all when an individual is subjected to irrational tirades and unwarranted attacks for doing no more than exercising the most basic right in a democracy — deciding how to use their vote.

One of the anonymous attackers accused Senator van Turnhout of being homophobic because she chose not to support Senator Norris. This is as preposterous as Israel suggesting that anyone who dares criticise their treatment of Palestinians is anti-Semetic. A sad, shabby moment.
