Selling the ESB - Shame and deep anger

THE Cabinet announcement yesterday that a section of the ESB is to be sold to the highest bidder to satisfy our new financial masters will provoke deep shame and anger in anyone who cares for this country’s future.

Selling the ESB - Shame and deep anger

The ESB is one of the organisations that helped our forefathers get up off their knees and shake off the terrible limits imposed on them by poverty and lack of opportunity. It is one of the forces that helped build modern Ireland and is so central to our needs and ambitions that it, or any part of it, should never be sold. The same applies to our water services.

Some will blame the ECB/IMF for this tragic consequence of failure but those responsible are much closer to home. And, as Fianna Fáil try to rebuild their disgraced and rejected party they can no longer shrug off the charge of economic treason.
