Time to get in gear and make cycling safe

We graduated from crawling to standing to walking to running to tricycling to cycling. We had no gears and hills were hard work, but one rarely got off. Every fibre was stretched on those old crocks to get us to ‘B’. There was no dallying.

The dangers of cycling have now become so great that it is hard to blame the parents who will not allow their children out on bikes. This means that the pedalling action, which is vital in the stretching and strengthening of the lower limbs (particularly the tendons under the kneecap) is consequently not there. This is a travesty.
