THE latest figures from the CSO show that between January 2005 and June 2011, the price of the average new house in Ireland fell by 24.3%.

Realistically, a house bought 6½ years ago is now worth only three-quarters of what was paid for it.

The proposed property tax should be based on the current values of houses. The levy of €€100 lacks all fairness.
