Irish heroes of WW II deserve to be pardoned

MY wife and I were visiting Ireland last week when I ran across an article in your paper about the 5,983 Irish soldiers who had been “court martialled” for fighting against the Nazis and Japan during World War II.

After returning home, I did some research on the matter and discovered that at the time these soldiers were considered to have deserted their post. However, I also learned there are many questions about the manner in which the entire matter was handled.

I am not writing to be critical of your country or government. I am writing to let you know that I hope to see these heroes of Ireland pardoned and that I am doing all that I can to bring this matter to the attention of the American people.
