SURELY Aodhagán Mac Coitir is missing the point when he complains about the spending of millions ensuring the security of the “hierarchy of monarchy” in relation to recent and forthcoming visits by hereditary monarchs to Ireland (April 9).

Protecting visitors

We are not spending money on their safety because they are monarchs.

We are doing so because they are heads of state that have been invited here on our behalf by our head of state or our public representatives.
