PAY levels in Ireland’s small firms have dropped by 5% since 2008 according to the Small Firms Association.

This contrasts with the 20% drop in public service pay rates during the same period.

Significant numbers of public sector workers have lost their jobs during the past two years — albeit not as many as in the private sector. There will be more job losses in the public sector. Many self-employed people face bankruptcy. All sectors need to work together to resolve the country’s problems and to help those most affected by the downturn.
