Welcome move on tidal energy
This works from tidal currents which can reach more than 10 knots (17kph) in certain locations, (not change in height of tides) and will produce 100% reliable energy on a 12-and-a-half hour cycle. The advantage is that because water weighs one thousand times as much as air, the turbines do not need to be large and the environmental impact is low. The cost of infrastructure is high, including strengthening the grid but it is worthwhile investment because the fuel costs absolutely nothing and will last for ever.
It compliments wind energy, and together with hydro-power and pumped storage, it is feasible to eventually produce all of Ireland’s electrical energy from renewables. However, this is no excuse for ignoring non-electrical energy requirements which are far greater and come entirely from fossil fuels; transport is 99.99% dependent on fossil fuels; there is no practical alternative, and unless this is addressed we are doomed.
