Killing our democracy

BECAUSE he wants to put the main government party out of power Tom Cooper accuses the leader of one of the opposition parties of “naivety” and committing “an astonishing act of political hari-kari” (Letters, Jan. 7).

This is despite the fact that the government party in question has been in power for most of the last quarter century and has presided over a major disaster for the country.

I think that any proposal to keep in power a party, which has been there so long, would be politically naive and would involve something close to hari-kari for our democracy.
