WITH regard to the recent student protests against third-level fees, I must vent my frustration at the failure ofstudents to offer any alternatives.

As a final-year accounting student in UCC, I understand my fellow-students’ anger at the proposed increase in fees.

However, we are in the most difficult economic situation the country has ever seen. It is simply unrealistic to imagine third-level education can dodge the budget bullet. To bring this deficit under control, everyone should be prepared to take a hit, including students.
