Double taxation

BEFORE the last general election, when there was much speculation about property tax, I can clearly remember the then Minister for Finance, Brian Cowen, saying “stamp duty is our property tax”.

Even if it is necessary to bring in a property tax now those who paid stamp duty have already forked out and should be exempt for, say, 10 years.
