Faith and practice

IN her letter (October 9), Maireád Scannell tells us the ordination of women to the priesthood is “contrary to the Catholic faith”.

On the contrary, it is contrary to Catholic practice. A religion, the basic ethic of which is love of neighbour, should not discriminate against half of our neighbours on the basis of gender. On the practical level this is especially so in view, as she says herself, of the “falling vocations to the priesthood”.
