Nun’s ordination call is contrary to the faith

AFTER the failed attempt recently by Jennifer Sleeman to get the faithful to boycott Mass, Sr Louvenagh, a religious teacher, now gets front page headlines (October 2).

Nun’s ordination call is contrary to the faith

She tells us she is “concerned about falling mass attendances and falling vocations to the priesthood”. Is it any wonder we are afflicted with both when some of those who are charged with passing on the faith to children have such a poor understanding of the faith they profess.

People who are not taught correctly about mass will have no desire to attend. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out then that falling vocations result from poor catechesis.

Sr Louvernagh is a teacher of Catholic religion. Now she has publicly called for ordination to the priesthood, which is contrary to the Catholic faith. How can she teach the true faith when she has publicly dissented from it? She puts forward the remedy to a problem that has its origins at her own doorstep.

The Catholic church might have falling vocations in the west, but where orthodoxy and faithfulness to the teaching of Christ is practised, the seminaries are bursting at the seams.
