Model youth

I HAVE just returned from a wonderful pilgrimage to Lourdes.

At the same time there was a pilgrimage of about 2,000 people from the Dublin archdiocese accompanied by several hundred young carers/helpers.

At a time when young people are portrayed as poorly behaved, I was humbled by their outstanding work caring for their patients and seeing to all of their needs from early morning to late at night.

Nothing was too much trouble whether visiting shops or cafes or taking their charges to services and visiting the grotto.

I was proud to watch the young people of Ireland provide a wonderful example of Catholic care.
