Delusional thinking on national debt

KEVIN McCarthy wrongly states (Letters, September 3) that “our public service has contributed massively to the reduction of our national debt”.

The sad fact is that, in spite of all the so-called tough measures, our deficit has actually worsened this year.

When our national income was €55 billion our public sector wage bill of €20bn was manageable, but when our income dropped to €30bn, it was simply unsustainable.
